Phoebe Conway, 8, has raised £665 of her £800 target for Lobular Breast Cancer UK. Raffle tickets are £1 and the early-bird draw closes on 19 September.

Phoebe Conway is eight, and on Sunday morning she was £135 short of the £800 she has set herself to raise for Lobular Breast Cancer UK. Her nanny, Clare Keel of Yateley, was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in November 2024. Phoebe has spent this year running one fundraising activity after another, and the current one is a raffle with 31 prizes donated by businesses across Yateley, Fleet, Camberley and beyond.

Her JustGiving page stood at £665 from 58 donations when we checked it on Sunday 13 September. The £800 is her second target: the page records that she passed her original £500 on 5 September and raised the bar the same day.

Tickets are £1 each, bought as a donation on that page, and there are two dates to know. Tickets bought before Saturday 19 September go into an extra draw for two tickets to the final round of the British Touring Car Championship on 10 and 11 October. The main draw, for everything else, is on Sunday 1 November.

A year of activities, one a month

Phoebe did not start with the raffle. Her JustGiving page lists what she has run so far this year: a guess-how-many-marshmallows in April, which came down to 323 marshmallows and was won by a girl called Nayla; a World Cup sweepstake in May, won by the Rendell family with Spain; and a toy sale in June. The raffle is the autumn one.

She wrote the reason on the page herself:

My name is Phoebe and I’m 8. I’m doing activities for the rest of the year to raise money for better medicines because my Nanny had invasive lobular cancer. I want to give money to the scientists so they can find a cure and no-one else can get it.

We asked what she would like to say to readers here. Her answer, sent through her grandmother:

I wanted to raise money to support my Nanny and help the scientists to find a cure so nobody else gets it.

How to enter, and why there are no paper tickets

There are no tickets in shops. We asked whether any were on sale around Yateley, Fleet or Hook, and Clare Keel explained the decision:

To maximise our reach, we made the decision to sell tickets online rather than through local physical outlets. With the amount of work involved in planning and delivering the event, this was the most manageable approach. That said, we would be keen to explore opportunities for in-person ticket sales at future events to help engage even more people.

So a £1 donation on the JustGiving page is one ticket, and the family asks donors to leave a name so winners can be contacted. The draw itself is not an event anyone can attend: the family says it will be run online through a raffle generator website such as RandomPicker or the Funraise raffle generator.

What lobular breast cancer is, in Clare Keel’s words

We asked Clare what she was comfortable having printed about her diagnosis. This is her answer, in full:

I was diagnosed in November 2024, despite having regular mammograms as Lobular Breast Cancer or Invasive Lobular Cancer (ILC) grows in a line or as single cells and rarely forms a lump (unlike Ductal Breast Cancer). It can therefore often be harder to detect which means getting a later diagnosis resulting in a delay to start treatment.

She adds that about 22 people in the UK are diagnosed with lobular breast cancer every day. Lobular Breast Cancer UK describes itself as a patient advocacy charity “working to ensure that everyone diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer lives and lives well”, and says lobular makes up 15 per cent of all breast cancers diagnosed and rarely forms a lump because of the way it grows, which makes it hard to see on scans.

The charity is registered in England and Wales, number 1191402. Its interim chief executive, Claire Turner, wrote to confirm the fundraising in a letter dated 7 September: “This is to confirm that Phoebe Conway is fundraising on behalf of Lobular Breast Cancer UK… Phoebe’s Nanny was diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer in November 2024, and she came up with the idea to do activities in 2026 to raise money to support our work.”

What it means for you

A ticket is a £1 donation on Phoebe’s JustGiving page, and you should leave your name so the family can find you if you win. Give before Saturday 19 September and you are also in the early-bird draw for the British Touring Car Championship tickets; give after it and you are still in the main draw on 1 November. The money goes to Lobular Breast Cancer UK rather than to the family, and JustGiving passes it to the charity directly.

If you run a business here and want to add a prize, the family is still collecting them, and the JustGiving page has a contact option for the organiser.

We have asked Clare Keel to send us the final total and a picture from the draw in November, and we will publish it here.
