The district
Fleet holds roughly 40,000 of the district’s 103,000 residents and is the only substantial town, with the council’s civic offices on Harlington Way. Hook is a village of around 7,000 on the other side of the M3. Odiham and Hartley Wintney are older villages with their own high streets, and Yateley and Blackwater sit in the north east, physically continuous with Camberley and Farnborough and facing Surrey rather than facing Fleet. Fleet Pond, the Basingstoke Canal and a good deal of heath and common run through the middle of the patch.
What we report
Hart District Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the local rivers, and company filings in The Gazette. Hampshire County Council runs roads, schools and social care rather than the district, and we say which body a decision belongs to. Every fact links to the original.
Reorganisation in 2028
Hart District Council is due to be abolished in April 2028 and replaced by a new North Hampshire unitary authority, formed with Basingstoke and Deane and Rushmoor. That will change who answers for planning, bins and council tax here, and it will put Fleet under the same authority as Basingstoke and Farnborough. We will report each stage from the published papers and keep the practical pages pointing at whoever is actually responsible.
