Church Road in Fleet stays shut to about 4 December and Crondall closes street by street to 8 November. Fleet Road shuts for the 10K on Sunday 25 October.
Church Road in Fleet is still shut, and the order expects it to stay that way until about 4 December. It is the closure that costs Fleet drivers the most, because one of the town’s two long-stay car parks sits on it.
Crondall’s village centre started closing street by street on Monday 5 October. Pankridge Street is shut first, to Friday 16 October. The county has now made the order, so the five phases below are no longer just an intention.
The next one in Fleet itself is the Fleet 5K and 10K on Sunday 25 October. Fleet Road, Elvetham Road, Reading Road North and Kings Road close for parts of the morning, between 09:00 and 11:00.
Updated 6 October: Crondall order confirmed as made, Guildford Road job finished, the Fleet road race and a one-day White Hill closure added, and the M3, rail and objection sections rewritten for this week.
Every closure below was checked against Hampshire County Council’s own public notices on 6 October 2026. Those notices are made under section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or section 16A for events. Each one gives the exact stretch of road, the official diversion and the contractor.
Hampshire County Council is the highway authority here, not Hart District Council. Hart runs the car parks.
Closed now
Church Road, Fleet
The one that matters most in the town centre.
- Closed: Church Road between its junction with Elvetham Road and its junction with Gough Road
- Started: Monday 17 August 2026
- Expected duration: up to 109 days, working full time
- Official diversion: Church Road, Elvetham Road, Avenue Road, Church Road
- Reason: gas works for Clancy
109 days from 17 August runs to roughly 4 December. Clancy has to provide reasonable facilities for access to premises next to the works.
One of Fleet’s two long-stay council car parks is on Church Road. If you park there for the train, approach from the Elvetham Road end and allow more time.
Pankridge Street, Crondall
The first of Crondall’s five phases. Crondall is about four miles south of Fleet.
- Closed: Pankridge Street between its junction with Dippenhall Street and its junction with Bowling Alley
- Dates: Monday 5 to Friday 16 October 2026, working 08:00 to 18:00
- Official diversion: Dippenhall Street, Crondall Lane, B3228, A287, Bowling Alley
- Reason: catchment investigation and reducing infiltration, for Thames Water
The full Crondall table is further down.
Grange Lane, Hartley Wintney
The longest closure in the district, on the shortest stretch of road.
- Closed: Grange Lane between its junction with London Road and a point approximately 20 metres west
- Started: Monday 14 September 2026
- Expected duration: up to 95 days, working full time
- Official diversion: North Way, London Road, Grange Lane
- Reason: gas works for SGN
Ninety-five days from 14 September runs to about 18 December. The closed stretch is the mouth of Grange Lane where it meets the A30, so what is shut is the junction rather than the lane. The signed way in and out is North Way.
Dilly Lane, Hartley Wintney, nearly done
- Closed: Dilly Lane between its junction with A30 London Road and its junction with Phoenix Terrace
- Started: Monday 14 September 2026
- Expected duration: up to 25 days, working full time
- Official diversion: A30 London Road, Fleet Road, Church Lane, Dilly Lane
- Reason: gas works for SGN
Twenty-five days from 14 September points to about Friday 9 October. That is the expected finish, not a confirmed reopening.
Bell Lane, Blackwater
Blackwater is about four miles north east of Fleet, on the Surrey border.
- Closed: Bell Lane between a point opposite no.40-42 and its junction with Brinns Lane
- Started: Monday 21 September 2026
- Expected duration: up to 32 days, working full time
- Official diversion: Rosemary Lane, Frogmore Road, Bell Lane
- Reason: gas works for SGN
Thirty-two days from 21 September points to about 23 October.
West Street, Odiham
- Closed: West Street between its junction with Salmons Road and the road’s termination
- Started: Monday 24 August 2026
- Expected duration: up to 10 weeks, 24 hours a day
- Official diversion: Western Lane, B3349, North Warnborough Street
- Reason: gas mains replacement for SGN
Ten weeks from 24 August runs to about 2 November, so roughly four weeks are left.
Fleet footpaths 502 and 503, and Crookham Village footpath 7B
These paths are shut for a path improvement project. The closure has been extended to 16 November 2026 by a direction from the Secretary of State for Transport. A council cannot extend a temporary path closure past six months on its own.
Crondall, five streets in five phases, to 8 November
Thames Water is investigating its catchment in Crondall and reducing infiltration, and the village centre closes street by street for five weeks.
The county has made the order, which runs for six months from 5 October. When we last checked, on 27 September, it was only advertising an intention. Work is expected between 08:00 and 18:00.
| Street | Stretch closed | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| Pankridge Street | Dippenhall Street to Bowling Alley | 5 to 16 October (now) |
| Redlands Lane | Pankridge Street to A287 Farnham Road | 19 to 21 October |
| Dippenhall Street | The Borough to Glebe Road | 26 to 31 October |
| Church Street | The Borough to Croft Lane | 2 to 6 November |
| The Borough | Church Street to Dippenhall Street | 7 to 8 November |
The signed diversions, in the same order:
- Dippenhall Street, Crondall Lane, B3228, A287 and Bowling Alley
- Pankridge Street, Bowling Alley and the A287
- Pankridge Street, Bowling Alley, A287, A325, B3228 and Crondall Lane
- The Borough, Dippenhall Street and Croft Lane
- Church Street, Croft Lane and Dippenhall Street
Because the legal order lasts six months, the county can come back inside that window without advertising again.
Coming up later in October
Fleet 5K and 10K, Sunday 25 October
Hampshire County Council intends to make an event order for the Fleet 5K and 10K Road Race. The roads close in stages and reopen once the last runner has passed.
| Road | Stretch closed | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| Kings Road | Fleet Road to Albert Street | 09:00 to 09:45 |
| Fleet Road | Reading Road North to Elvetham Road | 09:00 to 11:00 |
| Elvetham Road | Fleet Road to Reading Road North | 09:25 to 11:00 |
| Reading Road North | Fleet Road to Hitches Lane | 09:25 to 11:00 |
The notice gives no signed diversion. Access to premises beside the course is to be kept open. If you need to cross the town centre that morning, go before 09:00 or after 11:00.
White Hill, Long Sutton, Sunday 25 October
The county intends to close White Hill between Long Lane and Wingate Lane for one day, 08:00 to 16:00, from 25 October. Sunbelt Rentals is doing cabling work. The signed diversion is Well Lane, Froyle Road, Copse Lane and The Street. Long Sutton is about seven miles south west of Fleet.
What has come off the list since our last check
- Guildford Road, Fleet, the three-day Circet job at the Pondtail end from 21 September, has run its course.
- Farm Drive, Fleet was an emergency three-day closure from 14 September and has gone from the county’s Hart list.
- The Willowford, Yateley closure was a single day, Tuesday 8 September.
- The A323 Reading Road South, Albert Street and Clarence Road closures in Fleet ran out their expected six weeks on 7 September. We could not confirm on the ground that the road has reopened. The order stands until 27 January 2027, so the south-eastbound closure can be retaken without a new notice.
- The Odiham footpath 16 diversion closed for representations on 25 September.
The M3 and the trunk roads
National Highways runs the M3 and publishes separately from the county council. Its seven-day closure report for Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October has nothing at junction 4a or junction 5, the two junctions in this district.
The work that does touch a Fleet journey is one junction towards London:
- The M3 eastbound is closed between junction 3 (Lightwater) and junction 2 tonight and Wednesday night, 6 and 7 October, from 22:00 to 05:30. The report lists it as routine maintenance, with a diversion via local and National Highways roads.
- Both junction 3 northbound slip roads close on Thursday night, 8 October, and both southbound slips on Friday night, 9 October, each from 21:00 to 06:00.
- The link from the M25 at junction 12 to the M3 eastbound at junction 2 is closed on Thursday night, 22:00 to 05:30, and Friday night, 23:00 to 06:00, for safety fence repairs.
South of Basingstoke, the reconstruction scheme carries on:
- The M3 northbound is closed between junction 10 (Winchester) and junction 7 (Dummer) on the nights of Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 October, 21:00 to 06:00, and the A303 eastbound from the crematorium to the M3 on the same nights.
- The M3 northbound is closed between junction 10 and junction 8 on Friday 9 and Sunday 11 October, 21:00 to 06:00. The junction 9 northbound exit slip is shut from Friday night through to 06:00 on Monday 12 October.
- The northbound entry slip at junction 9, near Winchester, has been closed since 3 August and the report still gives it an end date of 1 November 2027.
National Highways rewrites the report daily and adds nights midweek, so check it again before a late journey.
Trains from Fleet, Winchfield and Hook
None of the October engineering work South Western Railway has published closes the line through Fleet, Winchfield and Hook. SWR’s September and October engineering page lists closures around Guildford, Staines, Twickenham, Salisbury, Southampton Central, Brockenhurst, Haslemere and Petersfield.
The Staines weekends do touch the Fleet stopping service. On 10 and 11 October, 24 and 25 October and Saturday 31 October, SWR says the Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services and the Alton trains “will be revised”. Check times before you travel.
The first weekend that hits Fleet’s line is 7 and 8 November, when the lines in the Basingstoke area are closed all weekend. SWR’s November page says:
- Saturday 7 November: Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services will start from Farnborough, and buses will run between Woking, Brookwood and Farnborough.
- Sunday 8 November: Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services will not run. Buses will run between Weybridge and Basingstoke via Woking.
SWR’s page does not yet say which stations the Sunday buses call at. We will add it when it does.
Fares and the season ticket cost from Fleet are on our Fleet to London trains page.
Two notices still open this week
The 1987 no-through-traffic order on Reading Road in Hook
Hampshire is proposing to scrap and rewrite the order that has kept through traffic off 893 metres of Reading Road in Hook since 1987, so that school buses serving Robert May’s School can pick up and drop off there. Objections close on Friday 9 October. We have written the proposal up in full: Hook’s 1987 traffic order faces the axe.
The Cove and Fleet speed limit order, which changes nothing
A Hampshire notice advertised on 28 August covers seven permanent traffic orders, and the first of them is The Hampshire (Various Roads, Cove & Fleet) (40 and 50 Miles Per Hour Speed Limit) Order 2026. It reads like a change and is not one.
The council’s own wording is that the amendments “will not change restrictions as they appear on-ground, rather they will bring Traffic Regulation Orders in line with restrictions currently in place”. The notice period runs to 9 October 2026.
What it means for you
- If you park at Church Road, Fleet, come in from Elvetham Road. This closure lasts into December.
- If you drive through Crondall, check the table. Pankridge Street is shut to 16 October, then Redlands Lane from 19 to 21 October.
- If you are in Fleet town centre on the morning of Sunday 25 October, plan round the 10K. Fleet Road is shut from 09:00 to 11:00.
- If you drive to London late on Tuesday or Wednesday night, expect the M3 eastbound to be shut after junction 3. It closes from 22:00 to 05:30.
- If you use Bell Lane in Blackwater, plan for closure to about 23 October. The signed route is Rosemary Lane and Frogmore Road.
- If you use Grange Lane in Hartley Wintney, your link to the A30 may not come back until December. The signed route is North Way.
- If you want to object to the Hook Reading Road order, you have until Friday 9 October.
- If you take the train on 7 or 8 November, check SWR first. There are no Fleet stopping trains to Waterloo on the Sunday.
- If you walk the Fleet 502 and 503 footpaths or Crookham Village 7B, they stay closed to 16 November.
The routes that carry Fleet when the centre is shut
Fleet’s road network is narrow in the middle and there is not much choice of route. Three things are worth knowing.
The A323 and the A3013 are the spine. The A3013 Fleet Road runs into the A323 Reading Road South at the junction where this summer’s closure started. The A323 then continues south-east as Aldershot Road towards Farnborough. When Reading Road South is shut south-eastbound, everything heading that way is on the B3010 through Church Crookham or looping round.
The M3 is the escape, and it has two junctions in the district. Junction 4a serves Fleet and Farnborough from the north side of town. Junction 5 serves Hook and Odiham off the A287. Fleet Services sits on the motorway between them.
The A30 is the other through route. It runs across the north of the district past Hartley Wintney and Murrell Green. Both of the Hartley Wintney closures meet it, and an application for up to 2,160 homes with three new accesses onto it is currently with the council.
Parking in Fleet, Hook and Odiham
Hart District Council runs the car parks, and its 2026/27 tariffs are frozen at 2025/26 levels. Every one is pay and display, takes coins and cards, and can be paid through the MiPermit app without displaying a ticket. Blue Badge holders park free in any marked bay.
| Car park | Up to 2 hours | Up to 4 hours | Up to 10 hours | 24 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Church Road & Victoria Road, Fleet | £1.20 | £2.40 | £8.00 | £9.00 |
| Hook | £1.60 | £3.20 | £5.00 | £6.20 |
| Odiham | £1.60 | £3.20 | £5.00 | £6.20 |
| Hartley Wintney | £1.60 | £3.20 | £5.00 | £6.20 |
| Blackwater Community Centre | £1.60 | £3.20 | £6.00 | £7.20 |
| Blackwater Station Approach | £1.60 | £3.20 | £6.00 | £7.20 |
Two quirks are worth pointing out. Fleet’s Church Road and Victoria Road car parks are cheap for a short visit and expensive for a long one. £1.20 for two hours is the lowest two-hour rate in the district, but £8.00 for ten hours is the highest all-day rate by £2.00. That is a deliberate town-centre design, and it is why commuters buy the season ticket, £1,013 a year Monday to Friday, rather than feeding the machine. Hook gives you the first 30 minutes free on a free-vend ticket, which none of the others do.
Evenings and Sundays are cheap everywhere. From 6pm to 8am, up to 14 hours costs £1.20 at Church Road, Victoria Road, Hook, Odiham, Hartley Wintney and Blackwater. Sundays and bank holidays are £1.20 for up to ten hours. Gurkha Square in Fleet closes to parking on Saturdays between 8am and 6pm for Fleet market.
How to check for yourself before you set off
- Hampshire County Council public notices, at hants.gov.uk/publicnotices, carry every temporary road closure order with the exact stretch, the diversion and the contractor. Filter by area for Hart. Read the “duration of order” paragraph, not the start and end dates in the header: those are the notice’s advertising window, not the closure.
- Hart District Council’s roadworks page, at hart.gov.uk/parking-and-roads/roads, links to the interactive map of works in the district and tells you who to report a road problem to.
- National Highways’ road closure report covers the M3 only, including Fleet Services and junctions 4a and 5. It is a spreadsheet, republished daily, with a sheet per day.
- South Western Railway’s engineering pages carry the fortnightly poster for the whole Wessex route.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Church Road in Fleet closed?
Hampshire County Council has made a closure order between Elvetham Road and Gough Road so that Clancy can carry out gas works. It began on 17 August 2026 and is expected to last up to 109 days, which points to about 4 December. The signed diversion runs via Elvetham Road and Avenue Road.
When does Bell Lane in Blackwater reopen?
The order expects up to 32 days of SGN gas works from Monday 21 September 2026, which points to about 23 October. The closed stretch runs from a point opposite no.40-42 to Brinns Lane, and the signed diversion is Rosemary Lane, Frogmore Road and Bell Lane.
Which roads close in Crondall, and when?
Five, in turn, for Thames Water. Pankridge Street from 5 to 16 October, Redlands Lane from 19 to 21 October, Dippenhall Street from 26 to 31 October, Church Street from 2 to 6 November and The Borough on 7 and 8 November, with work between 08:00 and 18:00. The county has made the order, which runs for six months from 5 October.
How long is Grange Lane in Hartley Wintney shut for?
Up to 95 days from 14 September 2026, working full time, which points to about 18 December. The closure covers roughly 20 metres of Grange Lane at its junction with London Road, for SGN gas works, and the signed diversion is North Way, London Road and Grange Lane.
Are trains from Fleet running this weekend?
Yes. SWR has no closure on the line through Fleet, Winchfield and Hook on 10 and 11 October. Work in the Staines area that weekend means the Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services “will be revised”, so check times. The first weekend that closes Fleet’s line is 7 and 8 November.
Is the M3 closed near Fleet this week?
Not at Fleet’s own junctions. National Highways’ report for 5 to 11 October lists nothing at junction 4a or junction 5. The M3 eastbound is closed between junction 3 and junction 2 overnight on 6 and 7 October, 22:00 to 05:30, and the junction 3 slip roads close on the nights of 8 and 9 October.
Who is responsible for roads in Fleet?
Hampshire County Council is the highway authority for local roads across Hart, and it issues the temporary closure orders. National Highways runs the M3. Hart District Council runs the car parks and passes road faults on to the county.
How much is parking in Fleet town centre?
Church Road and Victoria Road cost £1.20 for two hours, £2.40 for four, £8.00 for ten and £9.00 for 24 hours, on the council’s 2026/27 tariff. Evenings from 6pm and Sundays are £1.20. A Monday to Friday annual season ticket is £1,013.
Is there free parking anywhere in Hart?
Hook gives the first 30 minutes free on a free-vend ticket. Parking is free at the council’s country parks, including Fleet Pond, Edenbrook and Odiham Common, which are covered on our things to do in Fleet page.
